Stunning! What a technical accomplishment! Could be best picture. It's that good. Eye popping entertainment made (at great expensive) by the best around.
Understand that this story is a twice told tale but they still manage to surprise you with some of the plot turns.
Yes this is worth seeing. But don't cheat yourself. See it at a first rate theater with a big screen if possible.
A distant planet inhabited by an exotic people are sitting on an enormously expensive mineral. Of course the big, presumably American company wants it. They send in a small team to infiltrate. They appear to be the same as the aliens but of course they are not. And of course boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl back is at it's core.
Interesting when you think of the parallel that jumps to mind with oil in Arabia or gold on an Indian reservation. Hey who are the good guys anyway? Tough to see our species get kick around so much. Needless to say this will not be Rush Limbaughs favorite film. Political correctness abounds and the human race are pretty much a group of stinkers.
Oh and if they left out one Marine or Army cliché dialog I can't guess what that is. Now get down and give me twenty, ladies!
Anyway the real story is the movie and it's maker, JAMES CAMERON. Mister C insisted the firm run 2 hours and over 45 minutes (we timed it). So get the big popcorn. And the score is vaguely reminisant of another Cameron hit "TITANIC." None the less .... SEE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Really fun. A joyride of a film. Not the greatest acting ever but extremely well cast with humor and purpose and enough ups and down and goings wrong to make the whole thing excruciatingly interesting to watch.
Sexy, swinging London in the daffy, old Seventies. Film remains on the light side but is consistent and never flags in interest.
JASON STATHAM, who has already acted in the worst film of the year "IN THE NAME OF THE KING", acquits himself nicely in a film that is far more appropriate for his talents. Think STEVE McQUEEN in Blighty. SAFFRON BURROWS works her magic as the lady fragile beauty that can get a man in trouble just by looking at her.
What are the best bank job movies of all time? "BONNIE AND CLYDE", "RESERVOIR DOGS", "HEAT", "BUTCH CASSIDY AND THE SUNDANCE KID", "CRISSCROSS", "POINT BREAK" and the first "THE GETAWAY" come to mind. This film is somewhere in the middle of that pack.
Not a giant of a film but delightful all the same. A good guilty pleasure.
Other good crime flicks that this film brings to mind include: "THE ASPHALT JUNGLE", "THE KILLING", "OCEAN'S 11"(original), DEAD PRESIDENTS", "DIE HARD", LOCK, STOCK AND BARRELHEAD, "THE WILD BUNCH and "
A happy jaunt of a film like something you might expect from Ealing Studio's of the 1950's, you know, something MICHAEL CAINE in it or ALEC GUINNESS but a bit more up to date. Accents not a problem to understand once you get into it.
GO AND HAVE A BLAST!

I truly enjoyed this film. The action fights and chase scenes were great. I loved how they used hand held camera's. It really made the film more exciting to watch. It was fun tracking the world from Turin to Tangiers to Waterloo Station in London. I was on the edge of my seat most of the film. The audience was packed and they continually cheered on Jason Bourne (Matt Damon).
I was happy they didn't make this movie into a sappy love story. Bourne Ultimatum is a clever, athletic, scary and exhilarating film. Jason Bourne is our American Version of James Bond.

Saw this with a packed house who loved it. Great action film. MATT DAMON delivers and he is the real thing. I suppose you could be picky and say that under scrutiny the plot doesn’t really hold up and the ending is just fair but by then you are so drawn in that is doesn’t matter. This is a must see for brainy, action loving types who love a smart film that starts off moving and just gets better. Plus you get to travel which is always fun.
Lots of handheld shots. Quick editing. Bourne is the working class hero, just a regular stiff who is really good at what he does. He is no James Bond. This man wears no Prada. He walks amongest us, which is why you never see who he is only what he does.
Excellent supporting cast includes JOAN ALLEN, PADDY CONSTANINE, JULIA STYLES and DAVID STRATHAIRN. Joan Allen in particular is first rate. ALBERT FINNEY is a little over the hill as the guys at the end of the trail but stands up enough to contribute.
All the Bourne films have been solid and this one tops them off by just plain moving like a banshee. This one is internal, inside CIA stuff. There is no love story in the film which in some ways limits it appeal but it was unnecessary. I suppose they discussed the possibilities of Bourne and Julia hooking up but realized the character’s motivation is acting out of revenge for the murder of his deceased wife so just let it follow the action.
Outstanding direction and editing. Some really first rate fights scenes that never become tiresome.
Give it a look-see.

WES ANDERSON movie without involving Wes.
Two bothers, one is the planner, MARC RUFFALO the other the dreamer ADRIAN BRODY.
The old con man falls for his pray. RACHEL WEIST is always terrific and this is no exception.
Fun in spots. The actors excel.
I talked to members of the audience afterward who were impressed but felt it lacked clarity but they were impressed and had a good time.
All and all a decent time but why it had to be so complicated I will never know.

Life is disappointing in so many ways. Set on a small island at the tip of the Bronx writer, director RAYMOND De FELITTA knows his dysfunctional families.
When an illegitimate son just out of prison shows up things are just getting started.
I particularly liked the acting scenes as the always reliable EMILY MORTIMER gives another winning performance as a fellow acting student.
This film has great humor and heart without being precious. It never loses it's core base of reality.
A winner!

This is really dated even for a period piece. Special effects seem disjointed and over the top. I have heard they added the 3 D stuff after the film was made and it looks cheesy compared to "AVATAR."
A remake of the HARRY (the ham) HAMLIN film of the early 80's has the gods once again fighting the civilians as the old order of Mount Olympus goes down with a loud bang even though they appear to hold all the cards.
I have long been a fan of the great stop action film-maker RAY HARRYHOUSEN and his films "JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS" and "THE 7th VOYAGE OF SINBAD" but sadly his influence is wasted here.
I have to admit that at the screening I attended the computer mucked up and kept freezing the action making the entire evening much longer and more painful then it should have been. But even still the darkness of the piece was just underwhelming. Why so many darkened scenes anyway? This is Greece. Where's the sun?
Still our buzz cut hero, Perseus, played by the forever sullen SAM WORTHINGTON is just playing out the day. Always swinging his sword and crashing and clashing about that we missed any of the characters humanity. LIAM NEESON, POLLY WALKER (all too briefly) and RALPH FIENNES do their level best to play up the godly and queenly parts but it all comes across a bit HARRY POTTER-ISH.
This is just so damn confusing character-wise that the great journey loses any of it's contrived significants. People are introduced so quickly and then scenes start and end without purpose that the whole feeling of the movie is disjointed.
I wanted to love this film but I was bored silly by it.

Yes it's great to look at and so what?
The problem I had with this movie is trying to decide what it's about.
I know the plot. A man ages backwards. So? What does he learn from the experience? What does he feel about it? Is he happy? Is he mad? What insight has he gained or lost? Dunno. BRAD PITT plays him in neutral. Even when he finally meets his real father who gave him away for looking so wrinkled as a baby he has nothing to say to the guy. Kick his butt, dude!
Remember the epic poem “HIAWATHA”?
Remember how Hiawatha paddles to her village and she paddles to his and they miss each other because there is an island in the stream and they paddling on opposite sides of the island. Each going to a certain death when they reach each other ones village. I think that was “Hiawatha.” Anyway the point is that was touching and very much like life itself because you felt the tragedy of lovers passing in different directions. This is a story of two lovers who get together on that island and have at it.
CATE BLANCHETT wishes she could dance line that. Who ever was the stunt butt in this movie was excellent. Cate is once again outstanding. She meets the old Benjamin when she is a little girl and then ages in his direction. They are a classic screen couple. She gives him intelligence and grace. He gives her youthfulness and sex appeal.
“Thus the youthful Hiawatha
Said within himself and pondered,
Much perplexed by various feelings,
Listless, longing, hoping, fearing,
Dreaming still of Minnehaha,
Of the lovely Laughing Water,
In the land of the Dacotahs.”
The same guy that wrote this wrote the screen play “FOREST GUMP.” It is more than a little bit Gumpy. Or Gumpified. Whistfully logic-less. Your tempted to ask “did you shoot it in reverse sequence?
But it is still an interesting and fascinating movie. The special effects are sensation and the lovers are well matched.
Still I left with a hollow feeling. Why is this story worth telling?
Everyone who has ever grown up different then the other kids knows the feeling of being an outcast. It is upsetting until you realize what a tremendous advantage it is. But we never see any of that.
But it is a good yarn well told and amazing to look at.

A list actors with a devilishly delivered script. What does happen when a 40 something man and woman get together only to have her 20 something son come between them?
JONAH HILL. JOHN C. REILLY and MARISA TOMEI deal with the problem. And I do mean deal with it as every aspect of just what people are feeling is delivered in dead pan earnestness.
Unpretentious and unpredictable the movie is cleaver in it's conceit and yet has so many hidden implications it makes you squirm for the poor guy who gets into something that he has no idea how to deal with.
Written and directed by the Duplass brothers, they have hit a cord that rings true. Co-dependency and the shear length of time a parent spends with a child. There is a universality that shines.
The many zooms and close ups tends to feel claustrophobic put that sometimes is tedious. But the actors always come through.

Can't recommend this one even though I was really looking forward to it.
Love the leads, TINA FEY and STEVE CARELL but they are wasted in this mishmash. If you recall "THE OUT-OF-TOWNER'S" with JACK LEMMON and SANDY DENNIS or "ADVENTURES IN BABY SITTING" or "HOPITY GOES TO TOWN" you pretty much know the drill. Things can go to hell in one night in the big city.
Why, why, why you ask? Why did it have to come to this??? Mistaken identity has been a staple of comedy since the Greeks and Romans but a car chase through Manhattan?? Who is asleep at the wheel that these two talents have been wasted on this dreck?
As is often the case when you play a small role in a movie like this you end up looking better than the principals and this is very much the case with MARK WAHLBERG and KIRSTEN WIIG.
RAY LIOTA returns as the bad guy.
Occasionally funny but really who cares. Excuse me Shawn Levy but misadventures do not a comedy make. Big disappointment!!!
A married couple trying to avoid the pitfalls of boredom that leads to divorce

I guess I could moan and groan about the nature of this movie being old school mush and regurgitated plot lines but in all fairness my 11 year old enjoyed it and I thought it was okay.
It starts out slowly and never becomes truly funny. The actors do a moderately decent job although I kept hoping that the ghost of HANS CONRIED would emerge and demand reclamation of his voice.
The plot is just a mess about stealing the moon and how a bad guy adopts three girls to help him with the crime. (Oh and by the way. Did they ever let the little girl out of the Shame Box? I hated the idea of punishing children that way.)
Anyway it seemed like it would be great and it ain't but it was passably good. The idea of getting the hottest actors to do the voices did not kill it but it was not a problem.
I have to recommend it and my niece really enjoyed it. Old school fun. Like a Bond movie or Spy versus Spy mentality.

You may have heard the plot before “There are three people in this relationship.” KIRERA KNIGHTLY negotiates her way through being the party on the out in a bad marriage that leads her into a desperately wrong affair. Of course we are immediately put to mind of Princess Diana. Yet different.
Good love story told discreetly with tons of passion. Not entirety satisfactory but it keeps it's promise to correctly portray it's century.
Restrained performance from Kiera Knightly gives us some real insight into the times a troubles.
Pulls you in and keeps you going .... good movie

Excellent documentary about the underground world of tagging and graffiti. But who made it? No one knows.
Ballsy and brilliant this one took everyone at Sundance by storm.
Watching the work of an underground artist over an eight year period it show the highlights(?) of a career that must forever remain in the shadows.
Quirky and unassuming, the movie remains involving even if masked for obvious reasons. I am no fan of graffiti but this is a well made film worth seeing.
But who made it? No one seems to take the credit of the blame.

Much better then the first one. Okay, okay … it's a comic book gone cinematic without bothering to add elements like style or good writing but if you enjoy this kind of movie it’s well done. Simple minded to be sure but none the less fun. Recommended for the young.
There are inconsistencies in plot, arch performances, asinine speeches, silly spats between squabbling characters and hambone plot points that were ‘written’ with a sledgehammer but so what? I refuse to give this one a bad review. It moves well and is visually arresting enough with characters that though predictable are satisfying.
While watching the action sequences I recalled what I enjoyed about the comic book version, the “source material” that I had devoured as a child. It is the element of team work. Each of the superhero's has a different super power and when they combine there efforts and work together they achieve a common goal. That was “the cool part.”
As far as JESSICA ALBA is concerned she is a very beautiful young woman who surprisingly is showing signs of beginning to be able to act. She was god awful in the first one but developed a particular vulnerability that is appealing. As far as the rest of the four are concerned, IOAN GRUFFUDD, CHRIS EVANS, MICHAEL CHIKLIS, they should cash there checks and hope for more sequels to come. This is the kind of movie an actor uses to make mortgage payments. You prays everyone will see it except ‘A list’ casting directors.
What in the world happened to ANDRE BAUGHER? I have no idea. I'm glad he's working but first “THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE” and now this? Andre please find a better film to be in! I beg you. Maybe JULIAN McMAHON has it right in playing this thing like a potboiler, melodrama complete with capes and sneers. After all if your character's name is VICTOR VON DOOM I don’t suppose you have much of a choice.
I had to laugh when the American military landed in London with the Fantastic Four on board in order to fight the invader without so much as a “right oh guv’nor” to the local army or police. That wanker TONY BLAIR really did let the fences down! And how about those amazing powers the Silver Surfer possessed? Being able to bring back the dead? Pretty darn convenient to have at key points in the story. I don't wish to offend anyone here but am I the only one who thought he turned out to be the spirit of Jesus Christ hanging ten on a surfboard?
But what the heck. It’s the summer, let’s put are minds on hold and zoom along.

What the hell is this mishmash? Conquistadors in space? This is a serious movie concerning death and life and oh my god what in the world did I just watch?
And how can you make a good conquistador movie without GILBERT ROLAND?
This travesty is in three parts. Three separate stories starring the same two actors, HUGH JACKMAN and RACHEL WIEST. Number one (although it's all number one) concerns a scientist seeking to cure brain cancer who coincidentally has a wife dieing of the same. So much for scientific objectivity. The answer of course is: just add bark from a tree! The tree ... you guessed it ... from the fountain of youth! It's somewhere in South America, you just take a left at Jonesville. Anyway this part is contrived, preposterous and unfortunately the best part of the movie.
Then we have the conquistador part. The queen is in trouble so she sends her favorite warrior/explorer to South America to find ... the fountain of youth! No wonder Spain had such a limited foreign policy in the 1600's. That part at least is colorful but weird. It contains an image I am still trying to get out of my head. Hugh sucks the sap from the tree as out it spews in all it's creamy whiteness. But when they cut to a close-up of Hugh, there is nothing around his mouth. That's because the audience would have laughed hysterically to see what would have appeared to be a face full of come! Anyway he then spews forth with a mouth full of flowers and ... well you get the picture.
The third part is the scene that got left on the cutting room floor from "2001, A SPACE ODYSSEY." It's Hugh dressed in white, his head shaved, floating in a bubble. Need I go on? Usually I don't reveal the story line in a review but I'm sparing you seeing this. It's science fiction dribble without the ray guns. I love Rachel and Hugh's okay but perhaps this one was better left as a tree that remained unplanted.

I will call this a "date movie" but really it is a "guy movie." One thing for certain is that it is not a woman's movie. This is college humor but done well.
DANA HILL and RUSSELL BRAND are funny playing they same characters they did in "LOSING SARAH MARSHALL." This is JUDD APATOW territory and term subtly is as seldom heard as a discouraging word.
They idea of getting this nut cracker rocker guy to the Greek Theater in LA becomes a marathon for Dana's character who has a tenuous relationship with his gal that is stained to the limits in this movie. PEE DITY is the record mogul who's bit is pushed beyound the plausable zone or comfort zone for that matter.
But the movie is enjoyable if limited in appeal to it's age range. Still it is a good comedy because the characters are strong and engaged.

My lord there are so many movies in this movie. I saw a little “HARRY POTTER” and a dash of “LORD OF THE RINGS”, adding a slice of “NARNIA”, along with a huge helping of “STAR WARS”, topped off by “THE WIZARD OF OZ.”
You see ... this little girl sets off on a quest to find her real parents and discover the hidden truth and the hidden treasure and save the world from the Wicked White Witch in a parallel universe where animals talk like British stage actors and her best-est pal is a cowardly polar bear. Does any of this sound familiar?
But for all and all it wasn’t bad. The special effects are terrific and the kid actress is outstanding. The rest of the gang are strong including the voices of the animals. Oh did I mention that our “souls’ are worn on the outsides of our bodies and they manifest themselves as animals? And that they are distinct and show the true character that we have within?
The writer of these books (yes I said books, this thing is “to be continued.) Anyway the writer of the books is an avoid atheist and that has caused some concern. But I don’t see how that fact can effect your movie-going-experience. If your beliefs are so shallow that they can be shaken by the thought that your soul is actually a talking caterpillar … well … then you must have been hit on the head by a heavy bible anyway.
I don’t get what NICOLE KIDMAN is trying to do in this movie. She is playing a cold fish of a woman but she can’t help herself in also trying to be sympathetic. She gets too much screen time for the bad lady part. We needed to see her really evil side and then stop putting her in scenes so much. We all know it's just because she cost so much to star in this movie. SAM ELLIOTT comes off as sort of a HANS SOLO-ish cowboy type pilot. He even has his own Wookie although his talks in iambic pentameter and is a polar bear. DANIEL CRAIG is always good. He knows how to get on and get off. He’s even joined by his JAMES BOND co-star EVA GREEN who is equally enjoyable. We could have used a little more of Daniel Craig.
There are too many characters in this story and because it tries to cover so much territory there are some jarring cuts. The movie is definitely a statement against fascism for what ever reason it finds that to be an important. I mean it is a kid’s story.
I enjoyed it but it may frighten younger kids. I just never knew Todo had his own story to tell and was Dorothy's soul. Oh well!

The past always looks so much better from a distance … and in cinemascope. We seem to be drawn to the pre Second World War period of the 1930’s in what is essentially a hearkening back to a quieter time … and one with better wood paneling. This is one of those films.
DENZEL WASHINGTON directs and stars in what is really his film. This is essentially a motivational feel good movie about blacks coming into their own in a time many would rater forget. The deep south when racism ruled and people knew their place.
Good education conquers all as the debate team becomes a beacon of light to a small school no one ever heard of. Okay so they always seems to be on the correct side of any debate. It was my experience while on the debate team that you had to argue both sides of the argument but hey it’s a movie. The last debate, with Harvard, turns into an emotional display rather then a debate. Each debater tries to argue he has had the more gut wrenching life-experience. All semblance of argument by logic is abandoned. But again for the sake of the film it works. After all there are few things less easy to film then a college debate in full swing.
Film goes a little far a field by also making Denzel a leader in the farm hands right to form a union struggle but it does give the film a little grist.
Denzel is at his best as the “TO SIR WITH LOVE” leader in the class room. Throw in a little ROBIN WILLIAMS in “DEAD POETS SOCIETY” ad on MORGAN FREEMAN as Principal Joe Clark in “LEAN OF ME” and a touch of Edward James Olmos in “STAND AND DELIVER” with perhaps a nod to “MISTER CHIPS” and “MISS JEAN BRODIE” (in her prime) and you’ve got the general idea.
I liked the film and more importantly admired what it was trying to do. In reality they debated and defeated the unbeaten USC team but who wants to see a movie where college kids get to go to Hollywood? The woman on the team was actually in 1930 and not 1935 but again who’s counting?
Good film with high ideals. Great job Denzel!!!
