This is really dated even for a period piece. Special effects seem disjointed and over the top. I have heard they added the 3 D stuff after the film was made and it looks cheesy compared to "AVATAR."
A remake of the HARRY (the ham) HAMLIN film of the early 80's has the gods once again fighting the civilians as the old order of Mount Olympus goes down with a loud bang even though they appear to hold all the cards.
I have long been a fan of the great stop action film-maker RAY HARRYHOUSEN and his films "JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS" and "THE 7th VOYAGE OF SINBAD" but sadly his influence is wasted here.
I have to admit that at the screening I attended the computer mucked up and kept freezing the action making the entire evening much longer and more painful then it should have been. But even still the darkness of the piece was just underwhelming. Why so many darkened scenes anyway? This is Greece. Where's the sun?
Still our buzz cut hero, Perseus, played by the forever sullen SAM WORTHINGTON is just playing out the day. Always swinging his sword and crashing and clashing about that we missed any of the characters humanity. LIAM NEESON, POLLY WALKER (all too briefly) and RALPH FIENNES do their level best to play up the godly and queenly parts but it all comes across a bit HARRY POTTER-ISH.
This is just so damn confusing character-wise that the great journey loses any of it's contrived significants. People are introduced so quickly and then scenes start and end without purpose that the whole feeling of the movie is disjointed.
I wanted to love this film but I was bored silly by it.
